Yellow Dawn Session Notes 26th August ¦ Gambling and Get Out

Yellow Dawn – The Age of Hastur, first published in 2007, is an RPG written by British Science Fiction & Dark Fantasy author David J Rodger – it blends the Cthulhu Mythos and cyberpunk genres in a post-apocalyptic setting. It also has three novels set within it: Dog Eat Dog, The Black Lake and The Social Club.

THE CHARACTERS:

 

  • Winter – built like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger with North American First Nation features. An expert in martial arts and wilderness survival.
  • Brendan – slim, awkward in appearance, with dark hair and untrusting blue eyes; he wears black clothing and carries an air of suppressed pain around with him. Scars, like energy burns, to parts of his face hint at his meddling with metaphysical powers. A road mage.
  • Bela – tall, bulky, a victim of the 1st wave that left him Changed at the molecular level. Called an ‘Orc’ by those wishing to insult.
  • Aaron – 16 years old, tall, willowy, good looking, quick witted and intelligent, he was only 6 when Yellow Dawn happened. His survival is a bit of a mystery. Good with his hands and fixing things, his movement is limited by a gammy leg, fixed into a leg-brace.

RESUME 12th May YD+10 @ 5pm.

2 hours before the high-stakes gambling is due to start, Deraloux appears at the sparsely furnished apartment the characters are still using. With him is a tall, good-looking man, early 30, lean and muscular with a long mane of dark hair and blue eyes. He’s dressed in a leather jacket and leather trousers and boots – but these are not out door survival items, not armour, they’re thin, flimsy fashion articles, worn by people with more money than sense. Except these look like they’ve been worn too long. He’s introduced a Jean Belebonne  and although he has the air and graces of somebody used to wealth, he also looks like somebody who has fallen on hard times. It quickly transpires that Deraloux wants him out of Aigues-Mortes and he wants the characters to take him with them.

The gambling takes place at the high-end establishment run by Armstrong.  At one point there is over 200,000 credits on the table but young Aaron, who is the centre of attention, loses the lot. The winning player tosses him 6,000 in sympathy and a little admiration for the young pup (Aaron is only 16).  Jean tried to win his way back into credit but blew the only 1,000 he had. He now has no money and no equipment, just the shabby clothes on his back.

There is a little altercation with the Russian Grigor and his wife – who had tried it on with Jean…. but nothing else comes of it. But of course, Jean HAS to get out of Aigues-Mortes before people find out why Deraloux has been keeping him on ice for a few weeks.  Jean blew his family fortune in ever increasing stages of disaster. He’s never left Aigues-Mortes since YD happened and has shown himself to be entirely self-centered and heartless. Now the money’s run out he has got himself into trouble with the wrong crowd – who he has now betrayed so that Deraloux can act against them. The impact of this – for Jean – will be felt far beyond just Aigues-Mortes.

NEXT MORNING.
Everyone is preparing to leave Aigues-Mortes. Langford, is outside, inspecting the site where the yacht dropped poison gas canisters into water. when he sees Professor Ducane!  The professor recognises the post-grad student from Montpellier university – who had intended to write a paper on Ducane’s great invention….
They have dialogue across the water.  Essentially Ducane warns Langford that (something) has been feeding. Using those (other things) to feed it. And that now the stars are aligned… tonight, will be the night is wakes up. It must not be allowed to wake up.  And then he is gone.
The team are now mobilising to give pursuit…. however, Aaron and Winter have gone to the mansion of (MAN WITH LIBRARY) to see if there are any clues or information about (TOWN).
They strike paydirt and find a whole set of information about a disappearance – a whole village vanished in one night, 40 years ago.

RESUME 13th May @ 5pm, Aaron and Winter in Library, researching.  Langford is at stables with Jean, getting horse and cart ready.  Bela and Brendan are at the apartment.

GM NOTES:

<> DJR papers include notes on +to Brendan’s COOL for killing Hardstrom and +to FIRST CONTACT with Deraloux.
<> The characters have not considered doing any research around Soubere…. forgetting a classic tool of investigation.

<> Baron Toten Reich has talked to Bela about his “progress” after seeing him coming in (flying) recent night,
<> All money up to date

<> Brendan has the gore-smeared cerebral codexes for Tengo Gin and Magnus Hardstrom in his pocket.

<> Aigues Mortes, most kit locked away in a cell controlled by Deraloux (before they headed out on their op against Hardstrom).

<>Aigues-Mortes: Armstrong is friendly but firm, takes a like to Aaron, says, I run this place, I keep the rules and break legs.
<> In Celeste: Bela has some raw components and specialised components he scavenged on the way to Prudence.
<> Bela has a special ops gel suit, although armour is wrecked over heart and right thigh.
<> Brendan has an assault rife with 24 rounds remaining.
<> Winter and Samir have acquired a large number of firearms and ammunition, plus heavy weaponry, from Mohammed’s camp and the gasses mercs at Bino Bit compound (these are written on DJR paper notes).
<> NOTE: Samir is not with them. He is acting as comms liaison for Aigues-Mortes captain of the watch
