When it comes to the wire some people fall apart. The characters plunge towards an ultimate confrontation with the CEO who has caused them so much duress – Magnus Hardstrom, but have little idea of the horror their actions will unfold.
Yellow Dawn – The Age of Hastur, first published in 2007, is an RPG written by British Science Fiction & Dark Fantasy author David J Rodger – it blends the Cthulhu Mythos and cyberpunk genres in a post-apocalyptic setting. It also has three novels set within it: Dog Eat Dog, The Black Lake and The Social Club.
- Winter – built like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger with North American First Nation features. An expert in martial arts and wilderness survival.
- Brendan – slim, awkward in appearance, with dark hair and untrusting blue eyes; he wears black clothing and carries an air of suppressed pain around with him. Scars, like energy burns, to parts of his face hint at his meddling with metaphysical powers. A road mage.
- Bela – tall, bulky, a victim of the 1st wave that left him Changed at the molecular level. Called an ‘Orc’ by those wishing to insult.
- Aaron – 16 years old, tall, willowy, good looking, quick witted and intelligent, he was only 6 when Yellow Dawn happened. His survival is a bit of a mystery. Good with his hands and fixing things, his movement is limited by a gammy leg, fixed into a leg-brace.
RESUME 11th May YD+10
11pm at ruins outside Aigues-Mortes plotting how to deal with Hardstrom – Brendan and Aaron.
11pm at rendevzouvs point 5 miles from Aigues-Mortes, camping and sleeping – Winter and Langford.
Brendan and Aaron sitting in ruins of church with Deraloux and Baron Toten Reich. Brendan has got the fear as they discuss the plan to board Hardstrom’s yacht and trigger the gas canisters. In fact, Brendan is making a good go of the bottle of whisky he picked up and actually drinks so much as to become too wasted to be of any use. Aaron can’t do it because of his gammy leg. Abruptly the entire mission is in jeopardy.
Toten Reich has to find Winter and brings him into the plan.
Independently, Bela has acquired a mysterious steed from the stars and comes flying in by night to land in Aigues-Mortes.
Bela and Aaron acquire a rib with outboard motor. Bela sits at the junction of canals and watches Hardstrom’s yacht; Aaron sits with the rib, engine idling.
Brendan approaches hardstrom’s yatcht with Winter following behind, wearing a predator style cloak.
Brendan asks to see Hardstrom, he wants to show him (2 of the experimental light bulbs being used at Aigues-Mortes). It is Tengo Gin who greets him. Asks him why come at 3 o’clock in the morning. Brendan keeps his cool and is taken to the rear lounge. Tengo Gin says that Hardstrom is busy, with the girl – both men realise what kind of horror is possibly taking place in the lab module bolted onto the back of the boat.
Winter gets to work on the console. He wants Hardstrom to appear and so delays dropping the cannisters, veering from the original plan. The delay allows other events to build up and creates a scene where Winter’s sabotage is detected and nearly stopped. Winter has to drop canisters in a quick act without any time to think – it results in him dropping 9 canisters into the water; no more than 2 were needed. The size of the gas cloud that bubbles up explosively is immense. Much bigger than Aigues-Mortes.
Bela sees the immense creamy white cloud boiling up from the water in the bright moonlight against a dark background. It is a horrible sight. He and Aaron gun the outboard and make a run for it. Nothing they can do.
Brendan is about to be executed by one of the guards, as word goes round that his arrival is part of a set-up. Brendan paralyses the guard with his road mage abilities then smashes a bottle of whisky across his skull. He flees into the interior of the boat as various alarms start sounding. Brendan finds a security room, closes the door and discovers camera systems that give him a full view of what is happening on the boat. He sees Winter involved in a hand-to-hand fight with a merc on the staircase leading up to the bridge. He sees Hardstrom staggering out of the lab module, the doors being opened by security protocols, he is asphyxiating, clutching the young girl with him… he collapses, but then abruptly rises up as if lifted by invisible hands – it is Tengo Gin, wearing a predator cloak and coming to rescue his master.
Winter is attacked by the Infected woman that was being held captive by Hardstrom in the lab module. Winter caves her skull in with his tomahawks.
Brendan is hiding away in the security room; he goes to the door to find a way of locking it just as somebody tries to come through. Brendan holds the door locked. Tengo Gin on the other side – he is suffocating in the gas… let us in! Brendan is torn, part of him respects Tengo… but Hardstrom is there and trying to save Tengo would risk Hardstrom surviving. Brendan says “Sorry, I can’t.” Brendan hears the clunk of a grenade against the base of the door. He throws himself down. The blast blows out the base of the door and kicks up a storm of fragmentation but nothing hits him… however, gas is now flooding into the room. Brendan finds there is a panic room below the security room, he locks himself away in there. Coming out later, he finds Hardstrom’s mangled body lying in the passageway; some distance further up, Tengo Gin where he finally lost consciousness and died….
Brendan digs out the cerebral codex of both of these men.
Winter and Brendan depart the yacht after the gas disperses. They can hear cries of horror, panic and alarm coming from hundreds of throats beyond the boundary wall of Aigues-Mortes, a chill runs down their spines… there is always collateral damage.
RESUME 12th May YD+10 @ 5 A.M.
Brendan and Winter outside the walls of Aigues-Mortes; the yacht, with surviving mercs aboard is about to set off. Aaron and Bela are in the rib, almost a mile up the canal… reeling in shock and horror at the cloud of deadly gas engulfing the settlement.
<> Baron Toten Reich wanted to talk to Bela about his “progress” after seeing him coming in (flying) that night
<> All team need to make Rank Rolls, everyone with +1 bonus for making a good plan and certainly behaving within character
<> Winter & Brendan to get chance to gain COOL for killing Hardstrom
<> Bela & Aaron never really had much dealings with Hardstrom but can get a chance to win +1d3 COOL for killing him.
<> Bela & Aaron need to make Anxiety checks for death of people at Aigues-Mortes
<> All money up to date
<> Brendan has the gore-smeared cerebral codexes for Tengo Gin and Magnus Hardstrom in his pocket.
<> Aigues Mortes, most kit locked away in a cell controlled by Deraloux (before they headed out on their op against Hardstrom).
<>Aigues-Mortes: Armstrong is friendly but firm, takes a like to Aaron, says, I run this place, I keep the rules and break legs.
<> In Celeste: Bela has some raw components and specialised components he scavenged on the way to Prudence.
<> Bela has a special ops gel suit, although armour is wrecked over heart and right thigh.
<> Brendan has an assault rife with 24 rounds remaining.
<> Winter and Samir have acquired a large number of firearms and ammunition, plus heavy weaponry, from Mohammed’s camp and the gasses mercs at Bino Bit compound (these are written on DJR paper notes).
<> NOTE: Samir is not with them. He is acting as comms liaison for Aigues-Mortes captain of the watch
<> 87 people asphyxiated around the north gate area – the high walls certainly stopped a much greater loss of life.
