Friday Night

¦ dialling in from the Sky Bunker ¦

Fuck it’s hot. Polish guy at work had a chat with me in the kitchen area today. He moved to UK couple months ago and before he moved here everyone said to him how the shit the weather in England is. I nodded and said, “Yeah. They’re right.” Then I peered outside at the amazingly blue sky and the relentless glare of the sun. It’s been wonderful for weeks.  “This is… unusual.”

It’s been a good week outside of work. The happy hours in the wee hours of the early mornings and magic time between getting home and 9pm. I’ve made great progress on the new novel (Oakfield), first few chapters are online for you to buzz through if you’re so inclined. The other novel I’m working on, Sunder Gloom, has taken a bit of a back seat for now. Meanwhile, I’m progressing slowly, but steadily, through the edit of the novel I finished last month: The Social Club.  Hopefully be in a position to launch it by September / October this year.

Also been playing with Photoshop. Tweaked the cover of Dante’s Fool, the novel I wrote back in 1997 to 1999.  Also hacked apart the back-of-book blurb. My least favourite part of writing a book. Condense two years of work down to a handful of lines AND try to make it sound exciting but WITHOUT giving the plot away.

Dante’s Fool { novel } Detective Sergeant Louis Cloud is a tough London cop hungry for power and promotion, and he’ll do anything to get it. When two investigations cross each other around a mysterious deep space mining corporation he quickly learns there are other forces out there – and things from other planes of reality – that will also stop at nothing to get what they want. With his life thrown into turmoil, Cloud struggles to keep his career and his sanity as he plunges towards a terrifying confrontation with one of the sub-princes of Hell. Hurled into this violent mix of corruption and demonism is Natalya Dorganskya; previously the adorable daughter of a deceased global movie-star, she now uses her skills as a world-class pilot in bold criminal raids.  A path that quickly brings her head to head with Cloud and the non-human things that have come stalking through time and space to take back what she has stolen.  David J Rodger delivers a dark and edgy vision of the near-future in a novel that reveals the boundaries between the Satanism and the Cthulhu Mythos.

Yadda yadda. You get the idea.

I’m still working through the mountain of photographs I took last month whilst away in the Arctic Circle. A road trip to make the angels cry. Seriously. Driving around the far north of Norway. It’s like a fantasy land.  Still only 9 days into a 16 day journey (with the photos) but if you’re interested you can take a peek here:  Travel: Arctic Circle, Norway – June 2013 – Days 1 to 4.

The weekend is meant to be the hottest of the year so far. And I’m inside. Hey ho. Saturday is Yellow Dawn. Got “The Guys” coming over for a day of post-apocalyptic adventure horror – a mix of Cthulhu Mythos and Cyberpunk.  So expect notes on Sunday – catch up with the last session here. And hopefully some more photos of Norway and a chapter or two more of Oakfield.
