Yellow Dawn (Age of Hastur) – debrief & queries following conclusion of Horror on the Orient Express

Yellow Dawn – Little Boston Characters

Following the conclusion of Horror on the Orient Express, set within post-apocalyptic universe of Yellow Dawn (played from July 2011 through to July 2012, read session notes here) the characters find themselves “transported” back to their renovated small corporate compound in the rural environs outside the Dead City of Boston – a dozen or so miles from the survivor mega-settlement of “New Boston”.

WTF just happened?!  Everyone is asking, after phasing back to a time and space only moments after they originally vanished during the enormous storm that followed the arrival of Nyarlathotep.

In particular, Josh (played by GBH) has a million questions bouncing off his skull.

Here’s the GM responses (labelled DJR), either answers or holding actions. Date for next session not booked in yet.

Queries from Josh:

DJR: Gateway is something Paul Bishop has experienced. The train he “brought back” with him.  You won’t experience this until next YD session.

> – gate and get stuff rom our hotel in Istanbul: gold, ring of SOL, weird cinnamon scroll stuff, time travel cube thingy, chest, platinum weapons and gear.
> – possibly raid to the (local) shunned mosque where the baddies were in the parallel universe? Could have some cool stuff there?
> – raids at other occult places we know of from our journeys. Skipping the Lloiger.
> – research the fancy new brand Josh got from Nyarlathotep  (DJR this is not a new brand. This was the original branding Josh got on his palms after submitting himself – like a coward – to the power, glory and authority of Nyarlathotep. Josh’s branding – on his palms – was merely glowing to celebrate the new arrival of N and The Skinless One.)
> – read the scrolls that came with statue and understand it fully + cleansing
> – research the soul eating mythos operation, as now it’s probably more useful now than before.
> – research some occult spells and if time permits, do a 3-6 month stint at Purple Dawn: Quantum Pocket, Agitate elements, Drift, Flaming Orb, Power of Suggestion, Minor Detection  (DJR, I would suggest you park Josh as a character and continue scenarios with the group using another character, otherwise, and once again, you’ll be expecting the entire universe to stop whilst waiting for you to do stuff. *friendly tone*).
> – Learn Arabic and latin, and read up on some of the manuscripts we have and get some mythos points.

> – Do we get any rank roll, COOL (anxiety) back, learn mythos from all of this?

DJR: Yes, absolutely. To be completed next session.

> – Can we have some new character sheets please? Mine is falling apart.

DJR: I’ll print some out.

> – What were all the ‘features’ of the simulacrum?

DJR: You don’t know yet. :o)

> – new skill thaumaturgy is all about building, repairing and infusing mechanical (steam tech) magic. Can be used on Weapons, items, gear, body parts, vehicles etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaumaturgy  (DJR: like it)
> – occult is all about applied magick and theory. In this case, also about developing and creating blueprints for thaumaturgy items.(DJR: let’s discuss and clarify)
>
> Default thaumaturgy projects cost POW as a one time fee, to have them work at average levels. But with sacrifice of MP, these items can be overpowered for a short while. Steampunk items can store MP, and possibly make them slightly better, the more there is in them? These items are immune to mythos interference as they tune in better to the mythos world. (DJR: let’s discuss and clarify)s to all of this, in particular the immunity from mythos interference – it’s the same with Fungi from Yuggoth  -MiGo tech, and why N gave it to them)
>
> Steampunk was created/found by the Changed and taught to a few lucky others. A kind of fringe science that most people don’t know of.

(DJR: Nope.  This tech is most prevalent in MiGo hives  – it comes via N and is very difficult to develop)
>
> Still, how powerful are these items? Considering an occultist learning spells, need to put skill points in every spell, as well power them with MP. Would maintenance cost be the trade off?

(DJR: let’s discuss and clarify)

DJR: some nice points there GBH. Roll on next session.
