Red Wasp Design Pervasive Media Studio Making a mobile based version of Call of Cthulhu - join them in Bristol 6th Jan 1300 hrs for open talk

There’s a lunchtime open talk session taking place at the Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio – in Bristol – on 6th Jan @ 13:00 hours.  The clever folks at Red Wasp Design are currently working on a tech project to bring the Mythos Meme to a wider audience.  Undoubtedly they’re insane cultists.

I just hope it’s not all about shooting things up – just a different bunch of bug-eyed monsters to kill – otherwise they’ve missed the whole point of what the Mythos is about and what Lovecraft dreamed…

Here’s hoping they’ve crafted something that brings utter despair and horror into the lives of the hapless fools who dare to meddle with the mad machinations of those who worship the Mythos – or tinker with technology not just From Beyond the stars, but From Beyond all space and time.

You can meet with them and discuss Cthulhu and other pervasive media gaming concepts.  Click for more details about Lunchtime Talk: Calling Cthulhu – Making a Game from a Much Loved Meme.

Gizmodo UK the social technology site you know and love but with more crumpets

Ahhh, blisto.

So what can I say. Started working on this back in April, scoped it, created a project plan, submitted budget and development schedule: pinned the launch date as 29th September.  And we did it.  User Experience Concepts through to finalised design approval; development; issue resolution and change control.  All down to a great team play, from the seo boys; IT-Ops; ad-operations; and all the stakeholders who were brilliant for the fact they just let us get on with it.  Quite frankly, it’s been bloody wonderful.

GIZMODO IS ABOUT: Technologies that change the way we live, work, love, play, think and feel

.

Gizmodo is like the cool cousin that rocks up to a tech launch party where the glamour babes and iPad-boffins have already created  silos of interest, full of cool stories and an irresistible ability to put a smile on your face, weaving magic through the crowd.  The UK version is tailored to be about stuff that’s UK-centric, undiluted by tech releases that are only relevant to the US, and news that has global presence.

One thing that makes this site special for me is, it’s built on WordPress. We took an off-the-shelf CMS and we juiced-it up with lots of custom goodness.  This strategic decision significantly speeded up site-delivery and  has created much warm gooeyness within the site’s editor, Kat Hannaford: she does like to talk about cats, knitting and crumpets quite a lot.  I think WordPress rocks and it’s great to see significant others catching the loving vibe too.

Gizmodo UK, launched by Future Publishing, will join the stable with other technology sites: TechRadar and T3.com.  It will take our technology footprint to over four million monthly UK consumers.

Future is the perfect partner to run Gizmodo in the UK.  They are experts in all things tech and understand the unique voice of Gizmodo. We are delighted that Kat, an old Gizmodo hand, will be running the site and look forward to working with the Future team.

Gizmodo is a special brand with a huge amount of user loyalty so bringing it across to the UK required  a lot of consideration of that.  I think we nailed it.  What do you think?
