Politics of Yellow Dawn

The following text aims to describe some of the key players in the world of Yellow Dawn.  Read this to gain a deeper understanding of the forces that are attempting to shape the new world.

UDP

Universal Democratic Party. Formed by orbital Conservatives and Liberalists as a moral backlash against blatant commercialism of UTOC. It does not believe in zealots and essentially allows people to live their lives within a moral code. They are effectively the ruling governing body in Orbit, Deep Space, and in New Tokyo and the surrounding support zone, and a large scattering of settlements around the globe. However, the UDP are not popular with many other Living Cities and settlements that are not interested in being ruled by anyone but themselves.

UTOC

United Table of Commerce. Former global governing body, like a corporate United Nations, reduced to the status of an administrative function within new UDP government. Not a position it enjoys. Currently tasked with stimulating productivity and industry within New Tokyo and surrounding support zone.

MOCID

Ministry of Cultural Integration & Development. An all-powerful department within UTOC. They were tasked with ensuring member countries of UTOC complied with policy, including architectural statements that showed a global conformity. Their ‘Cultural Attaches’ have been likened to SS-officers and fanatical Jesuit monks. Since the fall UTOC, they remain a semi-autonomous power house of very pro-UTOC disciples.

The UDP keeps them under close watch but is realistically powerless against them. Officially MOCID is responsible for ‘reaching out’ to the next ring of survivor settlements around New Tokyo, and handles their re-integration. MOCID has picked up bad press for strong-arm tactics, ruthlessness and arrogance. MOCID is dangerous and scheming, with the following undisclosed objectives: destabilise UDP, locate and assassinate Po8 agents and sympathisers, with ultimate aim of bringing UTOC back to global authority it once was.

N.I.G.S.

New Independent Governing States. Any Living City and surrounding support zone that has declared itself not to be 100% in favour of accepting UDP rule. Think of the attitude of the New American Settlements towards the British Parliament in the 18th Century.

Power of eight – Po8

Power of Eight Group. A phenomenon of the 21st Century riding in on the wave of Life Coaching before Yellow Dawn. It is a religion and a cult. “Business is life.”

Some companies within UTOC had banned Po8 for recruiting and brainwashing their employees; but many more companies found the increased productivity from a “motivated” workforce, a worthwhile benefit.

Following Yellow Dawn, Po8 was briefly brought into the centre of UTOC strategy to rebuild the planet. But then UTOC saw Po8 becoming too powerful and used its Cultural Attaches (MOCID) to create a smear campaign against them; an ironic step considering UTOC’s subsequent fall from power after the creation of the UDP (Universal Democratic Party). But the UDP were equally against the Power of Eight group.

Po8 was banned, and its members outlawed within UTOC & UDP territory (including orbit and deep space). Po8 retreated, merged into strongholds of support, and continue to work to remove the sanctions against them.  The Po8’s largest “benefactor” and protector is a group known as the Social Club. The Social Club have an undisclosed agenda; members can be recognised by the wearing of high-quality, deep blue gun-metal suits, and a circular, blue rimmed lapel pin, picturing a bright orange Monarch butterfly on a white background.

FaB Lobby & FABIAN

Flesh & Blood Lobby. A political movement begun before Yellow Dawn to protect the rights of human employees, against the swell of robots labour. FaBIAN rose out of this fight, Flesh & Blood Lobby – Immediate Action Now. They are a militant arm, with many ex-serviceman who have lost jobs to combat machines. They exist in scattered pockets across the globe, hunting down robots and ascended carbons.

Carbons

Carbons are cloned human beings grown specifically for public service (corporate service). They were a new phenomenon just before Yellow Dawn happened, so most of them on earth died out through lack of sustenance. But it appears the Orbital and Deep Space colonies have been producing them on a large scale to help with rebuilding New Tokyo – the lifeline for space most habitats.

Carbons are superior in strength, dexterity and constitution, but are kept low in intelligence to prevent Ascension from taking place. Ascension is when a Carbon reaches its true intelligence: very high. Recent rumours of radical Muslims helping Carbons to reach ascension (and fuel a growing Carbon rebellion in New Tokyo) are actually lies created by MOCID, who are behind the ‘forced ascensions’

Dragon Breath AIs

This is the surviving remnants of the AI nest used in the Dragon Breath Programme (responsible for killing many thousands of infected humans when Yellow Dawn struck) and forcibly shut down by its human masters. A decision that ultimately led to Yellow Dawn being so globally devastating.
